Listening to the Body (Quite Literally)

Ever wonder what it sounds like inside you? If you enjoyed putting a conch shell against your ears when you were a child, you might enjoy this relaxing exercise.

Surprisingly, this simple activity I'm about to describe yields many benefits. In my experience, it relaxes the body, calms the mind and soothes restless energy. It appeases anxiety and worry and you get lost in the enjoyment of this simple sound within. It may seem ridiculously simple and you might think it's child's play. Excellent if you think it is, because when was the last time you played and had fun with sounds?

Of course, it's a great way to take a holiday from all the noise around as well, especially if you have kids screaming around you or hear the honking from the traffic jam outside your window. It is also an exercise in self-love (your body will feel heard and given attention to), only this time, we are LITERALLY listening to our bodies hum.

There are many similar practices like this, but what feels most comfortable for me is:

STEP 1: Cover both  ears gently with your flat palms and wrists facing upwards. Press gently until you can hear the hum (best heard when you are in a quiet place)

STEP 2: Make sure that your elbows are open, so that the chest and breathing are free and have enough space.

STEP 3: Breathe normally without trying to manipulate the rhythm of your breath. Don't forget to gently close your eyes as well and keep breathing deliciously with love and joy.

It sounds like sci-fi planets revolving in the solar system to me. I watched too many Star Wars movies perhaps. This exercise is relaxing, and surprisingly, you just might find yourself energised (or lulled to sleep) after this very simple exercise.

Now, after a while your arms might get tired. Don't force it, unless you want to use this as an isometric exercise to tone your arm muscles, then why not, feel free to hold it a little bit more. You can do this lying down as well. I tried this today facing the gentle sun with the breeze caressing my face, and oh, it felt so good!

If you're in the workplace and don't want to look silly, you can do it during one of your breaks sitting on the covered toilet seat for a few minutes (Well, using your own discretion of course, provided it's a quiet place where probably nothing else annoys you, like the smell. Lol!)

Have fun and enjoy the exercise! Let me know what you think you've heard!
